R. Edward (“Ward”) Kuhn was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1949 and was admitted to the Michigan bar in 1974. He has degrees from Albion College (B.A., summa cum laude, 1971 Major: Economics & Accounting, Phi Betta Kappa) and University of Michigan (J. D., cum laude, 1974).
Practice Areas: Real Estate – Preparation of deeds, land contracts, purchase agreements, options, leases and other real estate related documents. Advice regarding tax uncapping, land division, homestead exemptions and zoning. Litigation regarding boundary line disputes, encroachments, landlord tenant relations and other real property issues.
Condominiums – Preparation of Master Deeds and other documents associated with creating condominium projects. Review of existing condo documents and enforcement of unit owner and Association rights relative to developers.
Estate Planning – Preparation of wills, trusts, powers of attorney, patient advocate appointments and ladybird deeds. Advice concerning estate taxation, transfers on death and medicaid qualification. Probating of wills and litigation regarding estate settlement.
Business Organization – Creation of LLCs, corporations, and partnerships. Purchase and sale of businesses. Advice and preparation of buyout agreements.
Municipal Law – Representation of governmental entities.
Community Involvement: Mr. Kuhn has served on the Traverse City Fire and Police Pension Board for many years. He was one of the founders of the Habitat for Humanity affiliate in Traverse City. An avid high school football fan, Mr. Kuhn has been the videographer for the St. Francis High School football program since 1994. He has also been a volunteer at the Third Level Legal Clinic since its inception. Mr. Kuhn has participated in numerous musical productions as a choral member of the Grand Traverse Choral.
